General Hospital: Jack Brennan’s Death Could Spell Trouble for Several Port Charles Residents
Jack Brennan’s shocking death has officially changed the game in Port Charles. The Tuesday, September 1 episode of General Hospital confirmed that the body discovered floating in the Metro Court pool belonged to the WSB chief.
What initially looked like a horrifying accident could quickly become a much bigger mystery. Several people had complicated connections to Brennan before his death, and some of them have plenty of reasons to worry if the PCPD starts digging into what happened.
Ava Jerome, Drew Quartermaine, Nina Reeves, Willow Tait, Josslyn Jacks, and Charlotte Cassadine could all find themselves caught up in the fallout. But who has the most to lose?
Ava Jerome Could Be in Serious Trouble
Ava’s decision to help Drew may come back to haunt her in a major way.
Ava agreed to keep Jack Brennan occupied while Drew secretly searched the WSB chief’s hotel room. Drew needed to find evidence that Brennan was using against him, so Ava reluctantly played along with the plan.
Unfortunately, Ava’s part in the scheme involved giving Jack a sleeping pill.
She never intended for Brennan to die, but the medication may have played a role in his unexpected death. Once Ava and Drew realized Jack was dead, they were forced to think quickly. Rather than immediately report what happened, they chose to move his body and hide their involvement.
That decision could prove disastrous.
Ava Was Seen With Brennan Before His Death
Ava has another problem that could make her look suspicious.
She was publicly seen with Jack shortly before his death, and their encounter took place around the Metro Court pool area. If investigators begin reconstructing Brennan’s final hours, Ava’s presence could quickly become part of the investigation.
Even if Ava insists she never intended to hurt Jack, detectives could have plenty of questions about why she was with him, what she gave him, and why his body was later moved.
Ava Could Use Drew’s Secret as Leverage
There is also something else that could put Ava in a powerful position.
Drew had been desperate to recover evidence Brennan possessed about his alleged misuse of federal money. The WSB chief reportedly had information showing that Drew embezzled federal funds and redirected the money toward his congressional campaign.
Drew failed to recover that evidence from Brennan’s room.
Now that Brennan is dead, Drew may initially feel relieved. But if investigators search Brennan’s belongings or hotel room, they could eventually uncover the evidence.
Ava knows exactly what Drew was looking for.
If she believes the investigation is closing in on her, she could decide that protecting herself means turning on Drew.
Drew Quartermaine May Not Be Safe Either
Drew was the person who set the entire scheme in motion.
He needed Ava to keep Brennan distracted while he attempted to enter the WSB chief’s hotel room. To make that possible, Drew went as far as interfering with the hotel's security system so he could move around without being detected.
His plan ultimately failed because he didn't find the evidence he wanted.
But Brennan's death changes everything.
Brennan’s Evidence Could Still Destroy Drew
Jack’s death doesn't necessarily mean the secrets he possessed disappeared with him.
If the circumstances surrounding his death are investigated, authorities could begin examining his files, recordings, and other evidence. That could put Drew's financial wrongdoing back under the spotlight.
And Ava may become one of the biggest threats to Drew.
She knows why he wanted access to Brennan's room and understands exactly what information Jack had been holding over him. If Drew tries to sacrifice Ava to save himself, she could retaliate by revealing what she knows.
Nina Reeves Has Her Own Problem
Nina's connection to Brennan could also attract unwanted attention.
Although she had recently become romantically involved with Jack, their relationship wasn't exactly peaceful. Nina publicly confronted and threatened him at the Metro Court Gardens before his death.
Unfortunately for Nina, she wasn't alone when it happened.
Carly Could Make Things Worse for Nina
Carly was among the people who witnessed Nina's confrontation with Brennan.
Given the long-running hostility between Carly and Nina, Carly is hardly likely to miss an opportunity to point investigators toward Nina if Jack's death becomes a murder case.
That doesn't mean Nina is responsible for Brennan's death. However, being publicly angry with a person shortly before their death can make anyone look suspicious.
Nina may therefore have to explain exactly what happened during that confrontation and whether she had any reason to want Brennan dead.
Willow Tait Has a Dangerous Secret
Willow may have even more reason to panic if investigators start looking closely at Brennan's final days.
On the surface, Willow appeared to be helping Jack. Using her position in Congress, she worked to help secure funding for the WSB.
But there was a much darker reason behind her cooperation.
Brennan Had Something on Willow
Jack knew that Willow was responsible for shooting Drew and later drugging him.
That secret gave Brennan enormous leverage over her.
When Jack threatened to expose Willow unless she helped secure the money the WSB needed, Willow secretly recorded their conversation. She apparently intended to keep the recording as protection in case Brennan tried to turn against her.
Now Jack is dead.
That recording could become a major problem.
If investigators discover it, Willow could suddenly find herself connected to Brennan's final days. Instead of giving her an advantage, the recording could become evidence that raises even more questions about her relationship with the WSB chief.
Josslyn Jacks Faces an Unexpected Mystery
Josslyn's situation is different from everyone else's.
Jack wasn't simply someone she knew. He was her WSB boss and played an important role in bringing her into the bureau.
Brennan occasionally bent the rules to protect Josslyn, making his death particularly significant for her.
What Was Brennan Really Planning for Joss?
Before his death, Brennan gave Josslyn an unusual assignment.
He instructed her to take over as CEO of Jasper Jacks Enterprises, her father's company. The strange part was that Brennan couldn't—or wouldn't—tell Josslyn exactly why the WSB wanted her in that position.
Now he's gone.
That could leave Josslyn questioning everything.
She may start wondering whether Brennan's death is connected to the mysterious assignment he gave her. If there was a larger WSB operation behind her appointment, Joss could suddenly be left trying to uncover the truth without the one person who understood the entire plan.
As a WSB agent herself, she may even want to investigate Brennan's death. But that could put her in an uncomfortable position if the investigation leads back to people she knows.
Charlotte Cassadine Could Accidentally Leave Behind Evidence
Charlotte has already experienced one of the most traumatic moments connected to Brennan's death.
She and Danny discovered the body in the Metro Court pool, and Charlotte actually swam into the corpse before realizing what had happened.
But the teenager could face another nightmare if investigators discover something else at the scene.
Charlotte’s Missing Bracelet Could Cause Trouble
Charlotte lost a bracelet at the pool.
The problem is that the bracelet could potentially turn up caught in Brennan's clothing.
That would be a terrifying development for Charlotte, even though there is no reason to believe she had anything to do with Jack's death.
The fact that Brennan was an enemy of her father, Valentin, makes the situation even more complicated. Investigators may not immediately believe Charlotte was responsible, but finding her jewelry attached to the dead man's clothing would certainly raise questions.
Danny Could Become Part of the Investigation
Charlotte also has another secret to protect.
Danny was with her when they discovered Brennan's body. Instead of staying at the scene and reporting what they had found, the two teenagers fled.
If Charlotte's bracelet is discovered on Brennan, investigators could start asking how it got there.
That could force Charlotte to explain exactly what happened at the pool—and reveal that Danny was there too.
Jack Brennan’s Death Has Created a Dangerous Web of Secrets
Brennan's death may have removed one of Port Charles' most powerful players, but it certainly hasn't removed the secrets surrounding him.
Ava and Drew now have to worry about their involvement in the events leading to Brennan's death. Nina could find herself under suspicion because of her public confrontation with Jack. Willow has a recording that could connect her to the WSB chief, while Josslyn is left questioning the mysterious assignment Brennan gave her.
And Charlotte could unintentionally leave behind a piece of evidence that places her at the center of the investigation.
The biggest question now isn't simply who killed Jack Brennan?
It's how many people will be destroyed when the truth about his final hours finally comes out?
